Esquimalt Urban Deer Project
Esquimalt Urban Deer Project
The Esquimalt Urban Deer Project builds on our research on Columbia black-tailed deer in Oak Bay. In this landscape conditions are different; there are different sources of immigrating urban deer, and different resource availability. 40 cameras are being deployed throughout the Township, offering insight on habitat selection, distribution, and density estimation. A population reduction treatment – immunocontraception – will be applied in Fall 2021 and corresponding population reductions tracked through time.
