Christina Lake Wildlife Monitoring Project
Christina Lake Wildlife Monitoring Project
60 wildlife cameras were deployed at the intersection of the Cold Lake and ESAR caribou ranges near Conklin, Alberta to survey medium- to large-bodied mammals. In the winter of 2016, wolf removal began in the area to conserve these two caribou populations. The wildlife cameras collected data from 2011-2014 and 2017-2020 (in the same locations), providing an opportunity to examine carnivore resource selection before and after the beginning of wolf removal. The objective of the project is to inform woodland caribou recovery efforts on the broader ecological impacts of wolf removal.
