The Divii Project
The Divii Project
An array of 15 cameras were deployed in 2018 as part of a Gwich'in-led community-based monitoring program for Dall's sheep (divii in Gwich'in language). Local knowledge holders helped deploy the cameras on high-use divii trails. The data is being used to develop new methods for estimating divii population demography using cameras, as compared to aerial surveys. Camera data is also being used to better understand interactions between divii and known predators & competitors, monitor disease, and monitor potential range expansions of species such as coyote & muskox.
