Wildlife Responses to Recreation in Joffre Lakes and Garibaldi Provincial Parks
Wildlife Responses to Recreation in Joffre Lakes and Garibaldi Provincial Parks
In summer 2020, we deployed 38 camera traps in Joffre Lakes Provincial Park and Garibaldi Provincial Park to survey wildlife responses to varying levels of human use of the protected areas during COVID-19 shutdowns. We are specifically interested in documenting wildlife and human (recreational) use along and around primary hiking trails that would normally receive high volumes of visitors during the summer season. This allows us to monitor wildlife responses over time as well as compare between the closed Joffre trail and open Garibaldi Lakes trail.
